These guidelines explain the correct use of the MFi and
AirPlay logos and provide marketing guidelines related to their use. To help
maintain the strength of the iPod, iPhone, iPad, MFi, and AirPlay brands, it is
important to follow these guidelines consistently.
The MFi logos
The MFi logos are designed to communicate that an
accessory is compatible with iPod, iPhone, or iPad. MFi multiple-product logos
provided by Apple can be used only when your company’s Licensed Product is
compatible with the Apple products designated in the MFi logo. See MFi Logos.
The logos shown in these guidelines must be used only in
connection with accessories that have been approved as Licensed Products in
accordance with the MFi/Made for iPod License Agreement (and, where applicable,
the iPhone/iPad Supplement or AirPlay Supplement) signed by Apple.
The
appropriate MFi logo must be printed on the packaging of a Licensed Product.
The MFi logo may also be used in the user guide and other Licensed
Product–related communications.
The AirPlay logo
The AirPlay logo is designed to communicate that an
accessory is compatible with AirPlay.
The AirPlay logo must be used with AirPlay-enabled
accessories that have been approved as Licensed Products in accordance with the
MFi/Made for iPod License Agreement (and, where applicable, the iPhone/iPad
Supplement or AirPlay Supplement) signed by Apple.
The MFi logo
and AirPlay logo must be printed on the packaging of a Licensed Product that
implements AirPlay technology. The MFi logo and AirPlay logo may also be used
in the user guide and other Licensed Product–related communications.
Where to download logo artwork
Logo artwork
files are available for download in the Marketing Materials section of the MFi
Portal Document Center.
Important
Failure to
adhere to these guidelines may result in the revocation of your MFi License.
The information in these guidelines is subject to change. Refer to the MFi
Portal for updates.
Legal requirements
All materials must properly attribute every Apple
trademark with the appropriate symbol and credit lines. SeeCredit lines and trademark symbols. Refer to www.apple.com/legal/intellectual-property for more
detailed legal requirements from Apple.
1.1 MFi single-product logos
Use an MFi single-product logo on packaging and marketing
communications to clearly communicate that a Licensed Product is compatible
with iPod, iPhone, or iPad. Select the logo that correctly communicates the
Licensed Product’s compatibility. If the Licensed Product is compatible with
more than one of these Apple products, use a multiple-product logo.

1.2 MFi multiple-product logos
Use an MFi multiple-product logo to indicate that a
Licensed Product is compatible with more than one Apple product: iPod and iPad;
iPod and iPhone; iPhone and iPad; or iPod, iPhone, and iPad.
Make sure you select the correct logo to indicate the
Licensed Product’s compatibility. Only one logo can appear on a layout.
Made for iPod and iPad logo
Use only with Licensed Products
that are compatible with both iPod and iPad.
Made for iPod and iPhone logo

1.3 Artwork
MFi logo artwork is provided in:
·
Resolution-independent .svg format
·
.psd format for web or onscreen use
·
.eps format for use in printed materials
1.4 Localization
The MFi logos
are provided in English and French. Do not create your own localized version of
the logo. A translation of the words “Made for” can be provided below the logo
in text, followed by the correct Apple product name or names in English.
1.5 Graphic standards
Minimum size and clear space
The minimum
height for each MFi logo is 10 mm on printed communications and 30 pixels for
onscreen use. The minimum clear space around the logo is X on all sides, where
X is equal to one-quarter the height of the logo. Do not place graphics, type,
photographs, or illustrations inside the clear space.
Logo color
MFi logos always appear in black and white except on
printed materials where black ink is not available. The area within the border
is white, even on color backgrounds.
Background color
The MFi logos
can appear on black or other color backgrounds and on photographic backgrounds,
as long as the logo is clearly legible against the background.
One- and two-color printing
MFi logos can
be printed in color only when black is not available, as on some one- or
two-color printed materials. When black is not available, the logo can be
printed in the color of the layout, as long as it provides sufficient contrast
for clear legibility.
1.6 Do's and Don'ts
Do
·
One MFi logo must be printed on the package of a Licensed Product. Place
the logo in a visible area on the outside of the packaging.
·
The MFi logo can be used on advertising and promotions related to the
Licensed Product.
·
Use only one MFi logo on each Licensed Product–related communication,
including advertising, packaging, manuals, web pages, and printed collateral.
·
Place the logo in a subordinate position on the layout following your
Licensed Product or company identity or main message. The logo should be
smaller than your identity or main message.
·
Use only current logo artwork provided by Apple without modification.
Don't
·
Do not use an MFi logo if your media cannot reproduce the logo artwork
clearly and at high resolution.
·
Do not use the logo on general company or product communications. It must
be used only in connection with your Licensed Product.
·
Do not make the logo the primary message or main graphic. It must be
secondary to your main message and Licensed Product or company identity.
·
Do not use the Apple logo on its own or in conjunction with an MFi logo.
·
Do not animate, rotate, or tilt an MFi logo.
·
Do not alter the logo artwork in any way.
·
Do not use graphics or images from Apple’s website.
·
Do not translate or localize the logotype, and do not add words or model
numbers.
·
Do not render the artwork to look 3D. Do not add effects such as shadows
or glows around the logo.
·
Never place an MFi logo on Licensed Products. Do not engrave it on an
accessory and do not use a sticker to affix it to an accessory.
·
Do not affix a sticker of the MFi logo to your package or other
communications. The MFi logo must be integrated into the package design and
printed on the package.
·
Do not add a trademark symbol (™) or registered trademark symbol (®) to the MFi logo.
Do not use two or more MFi single-product logos
together. Instead use a multiple-product logo as shown in MFi
multiple-product logos.
Do not reverse the logo colors. Do not change
the order of Apple product names.
Do not change the font, the color, or any of the
elements of the logo. Do not tilt or animate the logo.
Do not use the Apple logo.
1.7 Examples
The MFi logo is clearly subordinate to the company or
Licensed Product name. The correct wording is used to identify the Apple models
for which the Licensed Product is designed. See Compatibility Messaging.
An MFi multiple-product logo can be used on Licensed
Product packaging to designate compatibility with more than one Apple product.
Display only one MFi logo.
Use accurate compatibility messaging and clearly identify

2.2 Artwork
The
.eps version of the grayscale AirPlay logo is available in a range of sizes.
Each one can be reduced to fit the requirements of your layout, but cannot be
enlarged. The .png version of the logo is for web use. Use the .png file at the
size provided. Artwork for the black logo is available in only one size, which
can be reduced or enlarged as needed.
2.3 Graphic standards
Minimum size and minimum clear space
The
minimum height for the logo is 10 mm for printed materials and 30 pixels for
onscreen use. The minimum clear space around the logo should be X on all sides,
where X is equal to one-quarter the height of the logo. Do not place graphics,
type, photographs, or illustrations inside the minimum clear space.
The
AirPlay logo and the Made for iPod, iPhone, and iPad logo can be placed in
separate locations on the package or layout, or they can be placed beside each
other. When the logos appear together, the logos should be the same height and
follow the minimum size and clear space guidelines shown above.
Logo color
The
area within the logo’s outline rule remains white, even on color, black, or
photographic backgrounds.
Background color
The

Do
not alter the logo outline or the logotype. Do not change the color except as
described in One- and two-color printing.
Do
not reverse the logo.
2.5 Examples
On
packages the AirPlay logo can be placed on the front panel. It should be
clearly subordinate in both size and position to the company or Licensed
Product identity. The AirPlay logo should be the same height as the MFi logo
when it appears next to the MFi logo. See 2.3 Graphic Standards.
Use
accurate compatibility messaging and clearly identify the Apple products for
which the Licensed Product is designed. See Compatibility Messaging.
Printing on cardboard or colored stock
When printing on plain cardboard shipping or packing boxes or on colored paper stock, it is acceptable for the color of the stock to show through the AirPlay logo and MFi logo (white is not required within the logos). This type of printing is usually low resolution, and the black AirPlay logo is recommended.

This type of printing is usually low resolution, and the black AirPlay logo is recommended.
3.1 Basics
Apple products can be used only to clarify that your
accessory works with or connects to the Apple product.
Do not use the power of the Apple brand to enhance your
package or communication. For example:
·
An Apple product image should not dominate your layout.
·
Do not show multiple Apple products unless necessary to clarify how your
accessory works.
·
Do not emphasize or focus on the Apple logo on Apple products.
Do not imitate Apple packaging or marketing
communications. Your packaging and promotions should reflect the style of your
company and Licensed Product brands.
Do not use a
Myriad font to name or describe Apple products in text. Use typography that
conforms with the type style of your communications.
3.2 Photography
If you
photograph an Apple product with a Licensed Product, follow the guidelines in 3.4 Do's and Don'ts.
3.3 Illustration
Use line art illustrations of Apple products only in an
instructional manner to clarify how your accessory works with the Apple
product. Line art illustrations should be simple and straightforward in style,
without embellishments or special illustration techniques.
Do not
separate the line drawing from an MFi logo for use on your layout. Do not use
Apple-provided compatibility icons as illustrations.
3.4 Do's and Don'ts
Do
·
Feature only the most current Apple products.
·
For iOS devices, show only these color options:
·
iPhone 6 Plus in silver or space gray
·
iPhone 6 in silver or space gray
·
iPod touch in blue or space gray
·
iPad Air in silver or space gray
·
iPad mini in silver or space gray
·
Maintain separation from competing devices. Do not group Apple products
with products from other companies.
·
Multiple Apple products can be shown on the same layout only to
demonstrate an MFi accessory’s capabilities. Do not overlap multiple Apple
products. Maintain the correct relative product sizes whenever multiple Apple
products are shown.
·
Secure the display rights to any trademarks or copyrighted material that
you display on the Apple product screen.
·
Place promotional copy, violators, or bursts beside the Apple product, not
on top of it.
·
Display and print Apple product images at a size and image resolution that
is clearly legible in the medium used.
·
Include Apple credit lines wherever legal information is provided.
Don't
·
Do not alter or distort an Apple product in any way. The product’s color,
shape, size, and form must be accurate.
·
Do not crop or cut off any part of an Apple product. Show it in its
entirety.
·
Do not create buttons or interface icons with an Apple product.
·
Do not show an Apple product at an extreme angle.
·
Do not animate, flip, spin, or rotate an Apple product.
·
Do not feature Apple product functions; focus on your accessory’s
functionality.
·
Do not show an Apple product along with a competing product from another
manufacturer.
·
Do not use an Apple product to emphasize the Apple brand. Your accessory
should stand on its own merits.
·
Do not emphasize the Apple brand by featuring the Apple logo on the back
of Apple products.
·
Do not display a blank screen.
·
Do not add special effects such as highlights, blurring, color, or texture
to the image of an Apple product.
·
Do not add graphic elements that appear to enter or come out of the Apple
product screen.
·
Do not die-cut a printed promotion in the shape of an Apple product.
·
Do not use graphics or images from Apple’s website or the App Store. Do not
imitate Apple layouts.
·
Do not cover any part of the Apple product image with violators, bursts,
or promotional type.
·
Do not overlap multiple Apple products.
·
Do not clutter Apple products with additional props or other accessories.
Feature only your accessory.
·
Do not engage in “suspension of disbelief” by showing Apple products or
your accessory in a fantastic or unrealistic manner. Do not show Apple products
or MFi accessories engaging in actions they are not capable of performing, such
as flying through the air or swimming underwater.
·
Do not use Apple product images on any disposable packaging or food
industry promotions. Use the Apple product name in text only.
3.5 Product Screens
Follow these guidelines for images shown on Apple product
screens.
·
The Apple product’s most current default Home screen can be shown with the
backlight on.
·
If the status bar is clearly visible, make sure that the battery and Wi-Fi
icons are full and that no carrier name is displayed.
·
Album art can be shown on an Apple product screen provided that your
company has the rights to use it.
·
If you are a developer with an approved app in the App Store or the Mac
App Store, imagery that appears naturally onscreen while the app is running can
be shown on the Apple product screen.
·
User interface functions, such as an iOS keyboard, can be shown only if
they are pertinent to your MFi accessory.
·
Do not show a blank screen.
·
Do not display any content on an Apple product screen that you do not own
the rights to display.
·
Do not display promotional messaging or graphics on an Apple product
screen.
On the Apple product screen,
display neutral imagery that does not detract from your accessory. You must own
display rights and privileges for any imagery shown. The simple landscape shown
in this example allows viewers to focus on the MFi accessory. Video
functionality is indicated by the inclusion of video controls.
Avoid
mistakes
Never place promotional copy or graphics on the Apple product screen. Do not display complex imagery that detracts from your accessory.
Never place promotional copy or graphics on the Apple product screen. Do not display complex imagery that detracts from your accessory.
3.6 Copyright-protected artwork
Promotional imagery from the entertainment industry is
usually copyright protected. Copyright protection is granted to album cover
art, music and movie promotional material, photos of artists and entertainment
industry professionals, and many promotional images and videos. Anytime
copyright-protected imagery is displayed on an iPod, iPhone, or iPad screen in
your communications, your company must have sufficient rights and privileges to
use that imagery. If your company does not have the rights to use the imagery,
it must be removed and replaced.
3.7 Editorial Guidelines
Requirements
You may use Apple product names in a referential phrase
on your packaging to indicate that the Licensed Product is compatible with the
Apple product or products mentioned, provided that you comply with the
following requirements:
·
Apple product names are not part of your accessory name, model number, or
SKU.
·
Apple product names are used in a referential phrase such as “for use
with,” “for,” or “compatible with.”
·
Apple product names are less prominent than your accessory name.
iPod, iPhone, iPad
When using
the names iPod, iPhone, and iPad in headlines
or body copy, always typeset a lowercase i and an
uppercase P followed by lowercase letters. The name iPod, iPhone,
or iPad should start with a lowercase i even when it
is the first word in a sentence, paragraph, or title.
AirPlay
When using the name AirPlay in headlines
or body copy, always typeset AirPlay as one word with an uppercase Aand uppercase P.
Never use the
AirPlay logo within headlines or body copy in place of the name AirPlay. Use the name AirPlay in text when
it appears in headlines or body copy.
Do
·
Always use Apple product names in singular form. For example, never
say iPhones, iPads, or iPods.
·
Typeset all headlines and body copy in your promotions in a manner that is
consistent with your company’s identity. Match the font used in the rest of
your communication when typesetting Apple product names and trademarks.
·
When using Apple trademarks in text, spell them exactly as shown on the
Apple Trademark List atwww.apple.com/legal/intellectual-property/trademark/appletmlist.html.
·
Attribute Apple trademarks with the correct credit lines as described
in Credit lines and trademark symbols. For more information,
refer to the “Guidelines for Using Apple Trademarks and Copyrights” atwww.apple.com/legal/intellectual-property/guidelinesfor3rdparties.html.
·
In communications distributed only in the United States, the appropriate
symbol (™, ℠, or ®) must follow each Apple trademark the first time it is mentioned in body
copy.
Don't
·
Do not translate iPod, iPhone, iPad, AirPlay, Lightning, or
any other Apple trademark. Always set Apple trademarks in English, even when
they appear within text in a language other than English.
·
Do not copy or imitate Apple advertising, marketing, or messaging for
iPhone, iPad, iPod, or AirPlay.
·
Do not use headlines, copy, icons, or images from Apple’s website at www.apple.com
or from iTunes, the App Store, or the Mac App Store.
·
Do not refer to Apple operating systems without also including the
relevant Apple products to describe compatibility. See Compatibility Messaging.
·
Do not list Apple product names that are not compatible with your
accessory.
·
Do not imitate Apple typography. Your messaging should match the
typographical style of the rest of your communication.
·
Do not indicate any kind of sponsorship or endorsement by Apple.
4.1 iPod, iPhone, and iPad models
You must communicate on the product packaging of your
Licensed Product which iPod, iPhone, and iPad models are supported. To
communicate compatibility, you may either list the model names in text or use
the icons provided by Apple. See Apple-provided compatibility icons. Display either the model names or the icons, not both.
Model names are provided in iPod, iPhone, and iPad model names.
If your Licensed Product is compatible with multiple
Apple products (iPhone, iPad, iPod), list the iPhone model names, then the iPad
model names, then the iPod model names.
It is preferred that models are listed with one model
name on each line. Do not combine multiple model designations in a listing. For
example, do not say: iPhone 5 and 4s. List each product separately:
·
iPhone 5
·
iPhone 4s
If layout space does not accommodate a list, the model
names can be placed in one or more lines of text with commas separating the
names. Models must be listed from newest to oldest. However, if more than two
generations of the same model are listed, the generations must be placed in
sequence from lowest to highest. If models are placed in a line of text, make
sure the length of the line provides clear legibility. Extremely long lines of
text can be difficult to read.
To place more than two generations on the same line of
text, follow each ordinal number by a comma and place the word and before the
last ordinal number. Do not use an ampersand. For example, to list three iPod
nano generations, say: iPod nano (5th, 6th, and 7th generation).
If you are listing more than three models for a product,
you can list the lowest ordinal number through the highest ordinal number
followed by the word generation. For
example, to list five generations for iPod nano, it is acceptable to say: iPod
nano (2nd through 6th generation). Do not substitute a dash or a hyphen for the
wordthrough.
It is preferred that generation is spelled in
full. The word generation can be
abbreviated as gen only when layout space is extremely limited, such as on
very small packaging.
Some models,
such as iPod with video, vary in thickness according to capacity. If your
accessory is thickness specific, identify the supported thicknesses by listing
the capacities in gigabytes. Capacities should be placed in parentheses
following the model description. Separate capacities with commas (don’t use and) and end with the word only—for example: iPod with video (30GB only) or iPod with
video (60GB, 80GB only).
4.2 Apple-provided compatibility
icons
Apple provides line art icons to represent the different
iPod, iPhone, and iPad models for the purpose of indicating compatibility only.
These icons are for use only on Licensed Product–related communications,
including advertising, packaging, manuals, and web pages. The icons cannot be
placed permanently on the accessory itself. Do not affix the icons to your
packaging with a sticker. They must be incorporated into the packaging layout
and printed on the package.
Use the Apple product icons only to indicate accessory
compatibility. Do not use the icons as illustrations. The compatibility icons
must be used in a manner consistent with the “iPod, iPhone, and iPad Icons
Guidelines” and the “Guidelines for Using Apple Trademarks and Copyrights” at www.apple.com/legal/intellectual-property/guidelinesfor3rdparties.html. An icon may not be used as a trademark for your
accessory or services, including any usage as part of an accessory or company
name or any usage that could serve as a source identifier for your accessory.
Logo artwork files and guidelines are available for
download in the Marketing Materials section of the MFi Portal Document Center.
4.3 iPod, iPhone, and iPad model
names
On product packaging, you must list all Apple product
models supported by your accessory, using the exact wording and capitalization
shown here. List models from newest to oldest. Start your list with the phrase
“Made for.”
“Made for” and “generation” can be translated when they
appear in text.

Apple trademark. Always set Apple trademarks in English, even when they appear
within text in a language other than English. See Credit lines and trademark symbols.
5.1 Apple requirements
Apple product images and the MFi and AirPlay logos
described in these guidelines cannot be used in any manner that falsely
suggests an association with Apple or is likely to reduce, diminish, or damage
the goodwill, value, or reputation associated with the MFi Program, AirPlay, or
Apple itself.
Your
marketing and advertising materials should reflect your company’s communication
style. Never copy or imitate Apple communications.
5.2 Legal notice
When using an MFi single-product logo or multiple-product
logo, include the appropriate version of the legal notice below on all printed
materials and wherever legal information appears on other communications. (For
Licensed Product packaging, the notice can be placed either on the package or
on the user guide or other material inside the package.) Spell out the
appropriate logo names and use correct Apple product names.
“Made for
iPod,” “Made for iPhone,” and “Made for iPad” mean that an electronic accessory
has been designed to connect specifically to iPod, iPhone, or iPad,
respectively, and has been certified by the developer to meet Apple performance
standards. Apple is not responsible for the operation of this device or its
compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Please note that the use of
this accessory with iPod, iPhone, or iPad may affect wireless performance.

trademarks used in your copy. For example:
